Intern Spotlight

Meet: David Saah

I didn’t think technology would interest me until I met the team at Algo Peers.

David Saah began his journey with Algo Peers during his third year at the University of Cape Coast, where he’s pursuing a degree in Film Studies. Specialising in 2D animation, David’s passion for storytelling and filmmaking was his primary focus until a unique opportunity sparked his curiosity.

It all began with PhotoVoice: DreamAfrica, an inspiring program where young creatives from Ghana and Canada join forces to address social injustices through art, storytelling, and participatory research. Through this initiative, David was introduced to Algo Peers, the implementation partners of the project, and the incredible work they were doing to make STEAM education more accessible and equitable.

Algo Peers wasn’t just talking about change, they were making it happen. Their hands-on approach to coding, robotics, digital arts, and physical computing was empowering children and educators alike. For David, the revelation wasn’t only in what they were doing but where they were doing it.

Cape Coast, often overshadowed by the buzz of Accra, was at the heart of this innovation.“I was amazed to see people creating such meaningful change here,” David shared. “It’s not something you hear about often, and it made me realise how much potential exists in our own communities.”

From Animator to Innovator: A New Challenge

David’s internship centred on Learning Media, where he contributed to the development of a coding game tailored to the needs of the African market. His role involved illustration and creating animations for cutscenes. It was a project that not only challenged his creative abilities but also introduced him to the world of tech tools like Figma.

When I started, I had no idea how to use Figma,” David admitted. “It felt like a huge hurdle. But with guidance from my mentors Nana Adwoa and Carmahn, I picked it up within two days. By the end, I was even sharing tips and tricks with the team!

This process of learning and sharing became a hallmark of David’s time at Algo Peers. From mastering new tools to improving workflows for his colleagues, he embraced every opportunity to grow and contribute.

Moments of Growth and Reflection

For David, interning at Algo Peers was more than just about technical skills, it was a journey of personal and professional growth.

“I learned so much about character design and animation,” he said. “But more than that, I gained perspective. Hearing stories from the team about their own challenges and successes inspired me to keep pushing forward, even when things get tough.”

One of David’s proudest moments was finding ways to make his work easier for others in the project pipeline. “Small changes, like better layer management, can have a big impact on the entire team,” he explained. “I wanted to leave something behind that would help others long after my internship ended.”

Looking Ahead: The Animator’s Vision

As David returns to university, his creative journey continues. He’s currently working on a 10-minute short film exploring the power of words, a theme deeply influenced by his experiences at Algo Peers.

“This internship opened my eyes to the ways technology and storytelling can intersect,” he reflected. “It’s given me tools and inspiration I’ll carry with me into every project I take on.”

David also shared a piece of advice for other young professionals: “Don’t be afraid to apply for opportunities, even if they seem unrelated to your field. Every experience teaches you something valuable.”

The Impact of a Storyteller

David’s time at Algo Peers was more than an internship; it was a collaborative effort to push boundaries and create something meaningful. Through his work on Learning Media, he’s contributed to a mission that combines education, innovation, and social impact.

At Algo Peers, we’re proud to have been part of David’s journey and can’t wait to see the stories he’ll tell next.

Don’t be afraid to apply for opportunities, even if they seem unrelated to your field. Every experience teaches you something valuable.

Takeaway message

David Saah is proof of Algo Peers’ mission to solve the biggest problem in education through these opportunities. His story reminds us of the incredible possibilities that arise when we step outside our comfort zones.

Here’s to more stories, more growth, and more impact. Thank you, David!
